Around the time that the application was put into beta testing, Genus were put in touch with the Head of Performing Arts at a Telford & Wrekin Secondary School by one of his pupils, who thought that it would be an great way to administer the “Across the Continents” Challenge that they were about to undertake.
The Challenge is designed to allow all pupils to contribute to the group effort of amassing the equivalent mileage of travelling around the world by undertaking various sports & exercise sessions both in and out of School.
From the information gathered, we can show how each pupil has performed against their starting point along with a variety of other statistics.
We are able to produce information about what targets are being met and what areas need to be addressed (in order to meet targets) against the government Healthy Schools Programme.
Using the system and the Challenge, schools can monitor their progress in working towards the Healthy Schools Award. Longer term, local authorities can build up a picture of health and fitness in their schools and how it is progressing on an ongoing basis. Future challenges can be measured against preceding ones to provide a picture of how health and fitness is improving year on year in Schools.
The cornerstone of ‘fitforschool’ is the exercise information stored at individual level. As the amount of data in the system increases for a particular demographic then the information we can carry forward increases and the more beneficial the information becomes.
The system can also issue reminders to pupils who have not logged on for a certain amount of days, can send weekly emails to all members and send reminders about or promote Council run events for students e.g. Summer/Autumn Workshops and Holiday Clubs etc.
