Background

Charlton School required an application that would allow them to administer and maintain a School wide Challenge to “Run around the World”.
Each member of the school would contribute to the challenge of exercising the equivalent of the circumference of the Globe.
The system needed to account for the fact that each school year would compete as a separate continent.
Each Continent would then compete against each other to contribute the most miles to the final total.
The Challenge was part of an existing “process” that had been formulated by the school - we therefore had to review the design of any solution to make sure that it fitted into the current system to best effect.
This included taking into account things such as security issues and reporting requirements.
As part of developing an application to administer and maintain a school-wide Challenge based project we had to put in place a secure and robust method of Data Storage and maintenance.
After reviewing the requirements and criteria, we designed a SQL server database as the back end to the project. This enabled us to put in place an efficient data store that interacted with the application to provide a secure and scalable solution

Client Statement

Charlton Learning Community , with the help of Genus Systems Limited are about to embark on an exciting project that take in learning opportunities from all over the world and make us all fitter and healthier in the process.
The project entitled “Across The Continents” will involve the students and staff at the Charlton Learning Community completing physical pursuits that are equivalent to set distances in an effort to cover enough miles to travel across the continents.
It isn’t important to us whether someone runs, walks, cycles, plays football, basketball, or rugby -for all we care someone could travel to and from school on a pogo stick every day.
What is important is that as a community we strive towards becoming a healthier and fitter place.
All students will be able to keep a record of their activities and log the progress of their continent on the fabulous system created by Genus Systems Ltd.
